Photo autorename by timestamp

Postby PetePerplexed » Sun Apr 06, 2014 3:52 pm

Objective is to rename photos eg IMG_1234.jpg to 2014-02-15 14.31.23.jpg - no problem with custom autodate - until there is more than one photo with the same timestamp - common if using burst shots or merging photos from more than one source. Its then necessary to do another pass with a suffix e.g. -1 added to the custom format field , select the files that "errored" and redo. keep going for further errors....

That's cludgy - suggested new functionality is to add the suffix automatically when duplicate New names are found.

Unless I have missed some really obvious existing functionality.

What about

Help > Options Menu

Prevent Duplicates

This option allows to you to overcome the situation whereby a rename would fail because a file with the same name already exists.
If you try to rename a file, and there's already a file with the same name, the software will make up subsequent attempt to rename the file but with a "_1" suffix.
If this fails it will try with "_2" as the suffix, and will continue up to "_99".
The limit of 99, and the separator character (underscore, _) are currently fixed and cannot be changed.
