Possible to batch rename from a TXT list?

Postby coyotewrw » Wed Mar 08, 2006 2:20 pm

Hi,

I have a 4-CD box set I've ripped, but I didn't set the naming correctly in the CD software (doh!). Now I have 100+ tunes without the artists' names.

Since it's a "various artists" compilation, I can't easily insert the names. I could just re-rip the discs, but I'd like to know if a batch rename is possible from a TXT file, since this would be faster. It would also be good to know for future reference.

Here are the current filenames:

01 - Soldier's Joy.mp3
02 - Don't Let Your Deal Go Down Blues.mp3
03 - Poor Ellen Smith.mp3
04 - The Drunkard's Hell.mp3
05 - Cannon Ball Blues.mp3

...and here is how I'd like them changed:

01 - Gid Tanner - Soldier's Joy.mp3
02 - Charlie Pool - Don't Let Your Deal Go Down Blues.mp3
03 - Molly O'Day - Poor Ellen Smith.mp3
04 - Stanley Bros & Clinch Mtn Boys - Drunkard's Hell.mp3
05 - Carter Family - Cannon Ball Blues.mp3

Thanks!

Yes you can, but you don't need a RegExp to do this. Just use the "Pipe-delimited text file" stuff (rename pairs). This expects a text file in the format:

oldname|newname
oldname|newname

From memory I can't remember if it needs the file extension or not.

Alternatively, use something like AudioGrabber and connect to the FREEDB online database, this has most CDs in existence.

That sounds like what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to find any info in the Help. I've searched "pipe", delimit" "text file", "rename pairs", etc.

Can you give more specifics, please? Thanks again.

Sounds like you're using an old version....

lol, yup.

Okay, I just successfully renamed some files using the rename-pairs feature. BTW, you *do* need to add the .ext of the files.

Thanks again. :)
