Postby jfhayes » Fri May 19, 2006 5:52 pm

We neee to rename several hundred files like this one

PRACTICE_#18452_v1..DOC

We need to remove the _ character. Some files might have one _, other files might have five _.

We are new users of this product and we need to do this today. Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi,

Yes, this one is straightforward.

In the REPLACE group (group 3) enter _ in the REPLACE field, and leave the WITH field empty.

OR

in the Removals group (group 5) just enter an underscore in the CHARS box.

That's it! Just select all your files (Ctrl+A, or by clicking then, or via a filter, such as *_*.*) and hit the REANME button.

The "new name" column will show what the name is going to become, prior to actually hitting the big red button.

Can you clarify? Are you getting filename showing in the main window? If not, then you need to check your selection criteria (bottom left of the window). Once they show up, you then use all the controls on the screen to affect the new name.

Something like

should do the job.
