BRU "Dings/Chimes" when Selecting Files

Postby Sam77 » Fri May 28, 2010 4:27 pm

On my laptop, when I select multiple files (by holding down SHIFT key and tapping DOWN ARROW key), the computer "dings/chimes" at me, as if a warning stop, like I'm doing something wrong. It selects the files just fine, but I just get this sound (it gets irritating very quickly).

I thought it might be a Windows (Vista) problem (and it may yet be), but in Explorer, this does not occur - only in BRU.

I can't find any "sound" options in menu. Any suggestions?

No takers on this problem?? It's driving me nuts! I think it's a "Critical Stop" sound, like I'm doing something wrong, but all I'm doing is selecting files.

THAT DID IT!!
When I first started reading the article, it sounded right, right off the bat. I had changed the theme on my laptop so that selections would show up better, but my desktop was still Vista Standard...and the article started out saying that this problem occurs when the theme is changed.

Thanks for looking into it further, and especially for finding it. This is great!!

(BTW, how did you find it?)

I actually found a Vista machine where this was happening and I looked on Google: there are many entries about this Vista bug.

I don't mean to re-open an old topic, but I just wanted to say 'Thanks for the help, again'. I knew the answer was here somewhere, because I had to search for it before. I found it, and it worked. This time I made a copy of the page and keeping it will the program. Thanks again! :D

For future reverence:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/944150   says  (excerpt only)

Applies to: all Windows Vista versions.

Symptoms
You hear a beep sound when you change the selection in a classic style ListView
when the "Select" option for the system sound is set to "None" in Windows Vista

To resolve this problem, ....

Method 1: Change the system sound to a silent .wav file
...........
....................

Method 2: Delete the .Current registry subkey

- Launch regedit
- Locate the following registry subkey:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\CCSelect\.Current
- Right-click .Current, and then click Delete.
- Exit Registry Editor.
