File has exact same date/time - How to set up rule for that.

Okay, I have roughly 570Gbs worth of photos that I've decided to rename with the date/time method. (See reasoning below for any suggestions you may have)

The problem I have is that many of my pics have the exact date and time (down to the second) because my SLR camera shoots 5 frames per second.

SO FOR EXAMPLE:

Current File names:
IMG_8368.jpg - Date taken is 6/15/08 6:50pm 22 seconds
IMG_8369.jpg - Date taken is 6/15/08 6:50pm 35 seconds (SAME EXACT TIME)
IMG_8370.jpg - Date taken is 6/15/08 6:50pm 35 seconds (SAME EXACT TIME)
IMG_8371.jpg - Date taken is 6/15/08 6:50pm 35 seconds (SAME EXACT TIME)
IMG_8372.jpg - Date taken is 6/15/08 6:51pm 42 seconds

What I would like the renamed files to look like:
Sea World 08 06 15 18 50 22.jpeg
Sea World 08 06 15 18 50 35 001.jpeg
Sea World 08 06 15 18 50 35 002.jpeg
Sea World 08 06 15 18 50 35 003.jpeg
Sea World 08 06 15 18 51 42.jpeg

So basically, I'd like to set up a rule that in case of an exactly duplicate DATE TAKEN (down to the second), it will generate a 2 or 3 digit numbering sequence for those files only. I hope this makes sense....?

By the way, the greater issue I'm having is that my 570GBs of jpegs and RAW files are in complete disarray. Some are true duplicates where as the name, time, date and everything is the exact same, just in different folders (due to downloading them multiple times to different PCs then consolidating later). These true duplicates should be deleted.

However my Canon camera only numbers files to 9999 files before resetting. Since I've take over 130k photos, the numbering has reset 13 times. So I have the potential of having as many as 13 jpeg files with the same name, but in different folders and with different time stamps - not true duplicates. The vast majority of my files are currently named the default Canon naming of IMG_1234.jpg and so on.

So am I correct that the easiest way to clean this mess up is:
1) Rename them all with a Date/Time stamp method mentioned above
2) Combine files into folders by month and year
3) Manually look for duplicate time stamps and determine if it is a TRUE DUPLICATE that needs deleting, or a different pic with same time stamp.

Is there a better way?

I am VERY OPEN to suggestions and appreciate any help you can throw my way. Help PLEASE!!

Sincerely,

Rich
