Missing choice to install both versions, x86 AND x64

Postby m00nSh56 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 11:15 am

Hello

First thank you for your program, the best in its category in my opinion.

My question: as i prefer to use an old version of an image viewer running in 32 bits, to have the extension working with it and not only with explorers running in 64 bits, i need to install both versions. Unfortunately the installer does not offer this option, so i have to install the v2.17 then replace all files with those of the v3 x86. Where are the separate installers? or at the installation can you give us the choice please? thank you.

Win7 64 bits.

Hi, the installation automatically detects 32bit or 64bit. But you can download the No-Installer files to manually install here:

Thanks for the response, exactly what i have done, i used the no-installer files to replace them in Program Files (x86).
"If you download the "No-Installer" version then you won't benefit from the "Bulk Rename Here" context-menu". So with the v3 installer now to have the context menu everywhere we are forced to run the old v2.17 x86 too. Only a setup writing in registry can solve this problem, not the no-installer files alone.

In my opinion, with the new installer, the deliberate choice you have made to ignore all programs installed in Program Files was an error, this forces people having x86 programs installed and needed the context menu to run BRU to manual and not regular manipulations on a protected Windows folder. We need 2 separate installers, or an installer which give us the choice to install what version we need, in my case also the 32bit version.

Hi, I think I might have misunderstood the issue. Why do you need to install both BRU versions 32-bit and 64-bit on Windows 64-bit? thanks

Because as already said i prefer to use an old version of an images viewer, much better and not invasive than all the new, installed on Program Files (x86) and running only in 32bit. If i did not have the old installer v2.17 well i will not have the context menu to run BRU right clicking on images folders. Maybe due to my bad english also :D

So 32bit BRU appears in the context menu of the 32bit image viewer, but not BRU 64bit?

We have several solutions:

1) The best like it was: running the two installers v2.7, 32bit AND 64bit. Like this i have the context-menu everywhere, for all 32 AND 64bit programs. No problemo.

2) The worst: Running the new installer v3 with automatic bit detection > context-menu working only for 64bit programs, not working for 32bit programs. Bad.

3) To have the v3 working fully like in 1) > running the v3 installer, then running the v2.7 32bit installer, then replacing the BRU files in Program Files (x86) by the v3 no-installer x86 files. Working but bad.

In conclusion: Automatic bit detection at the installation = regression. The ideal: an installer 64bit with the 32bit version included, we can check what version we want to install, only the 64bit or both.
