Only Desktop shows

Postby adkrev » Mon Apr 09, 2007 8:27 pm

When I open the program I only get "Desktop" in the upper left window. Clicking it does nothing. I cannot get to the files I want to rename.

I tried to place an image of it here, but can't seem to do that.

Using 2,1,1,10 with Windows XP Home

Thanks for help

Hi adkrev,

please use http://www.imagevenue.com/ for uploading the image to the forum.
Your problem could be caused by a misdefined favourite.
I may not be able to answer your question, but since Jim is still on holidays, maybe one of our other members may have a solution for you.

See ya.
Karl

By the way: Why don't you upgrade to 2.5.3.1?

Hi adkrev, welcome to the community!

Unfortunately not really. I already thought about it yesterday

Good point Karl.
I had made a test with my desktop and "Favorites> save on exit".
I have moved my user data to E:\
so in my test.bru is this entry:
"
[General]
Path="E:\Pers\Desktop"
"

e.g. the path is stored in absolutely, not relative %UserProfile%\Desktop.
But this is no matter on an other PC!
There i can still access the desktop.

Maybe it depends to the older version adkrev use?

adkrev you could search for *.bru files on your PC and rename them to e.g. *.bro
Then start BRU again.
And re-test this behaviour with the newest BRU version as Karl mentioned please.
And, BTW, with the windows explorer you can go into your desktop folder? :D Or not?

SOLUTION !

Postby adkrev » Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:23 pm

Thank you for your ideas.

A suggestion from a WindowsXP Forum led me to look at my TweakUI settings. I discovered that I had somehow deleted "My Computer" from the desktop. I have all my icons hidden and didn't realize it was gone. Once restored all is well.

Thanks for filling in for me, everyone.

For reference, I wasnt actually away - I shall be away later in June - but I rely on an RSS utility to notify me of updates to this forum. The RSS facility (Outlook 2007) seems to have got "stuck" on a feed from a different website, and didn;t refresh ANY of my other feeds. So I've not seen any postings since 3rd April.....

I wasn't aware that having My Computer on the desktop was a requirement. I process files using something called the "Shell Namespace", where EVERYTHING originates from "My Computer". When you remove MC from the desktop the object still actually exists, so I'm surprised that it stopped BRU from functioning.

Hi husband  ,

it was a pleasure to fill in for you as far as it was possible.
But I'm glad you're back on top.

Hi husband

Not quite :-)

We get married on 22nd June.
Current (estimated) date for moving into new house....29th June.

That's why life's a little busy at the moment
