Opening BR from a network drive freezes BR

Postby maxis » Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:12 am

E.g. go to a mapped network drive X:
-> right mouse click "bulk renaiming here"
-> BR freezes

Process runs actively but BR cannot be used. CPU use is massive and memory is received above normal.

The reason seams to be that the network drive is open(ed) in the Tree list.

If the tree list is "closed" BR can be started. If the tree is saved open -> Freeze when opening.

Can you provide some more info? OS, BRU version, steps to recreate etc.

I've mapped a drive and I cannot recreate this problem (on Vista x64).

Strange. I can't recreate this, either on Vista x64 or XPP SP2. Can you give detaile steps to recreate it?

I found the reason for this to be:

Windows XP Powertoys program
Tweak UI 2.10.0.0 (TweakUI.exe)

causing the freeze.

I have used to have hidden all mapped drives. Those drives cannot be seen in the Explorer tree (so that others wouldn't do anything I wouldn't like them to do).

Folders Can be accessed normally but they are "invisble". To access them you type the address (e.g.) X: to the explorer address box.

sorry for the trouble - we have learned

Yes, that would explain it. When BRU receives a "bru rename here" command it validates the pathname. Sure enough, the pathname exists. So it then navigates the "tree" to find that pathname in the tree and expand it. If the pathname isn't there, it probably panics.

I had a similar situation with hidden folders, and I overcame that to prevent a loop. I might be able to do something similar with UNC paths and mapped folders.
