Group Numbering & Sequence Within Group

I sometime "auto bracket" when using my digital camera. This produces 3 images of each scene & the camera assigns 3 different numbers. I'd like to select a group of files and have them renumbered something like this:

img-001.jpg - - - 001-1-img-001.jpg
img-002.jpg - - - 001-2-img-002.jpg
img-003.jpg - - - 001-3-img-003.jpg

img-004.jpg - - - 002-1-img-004.jpg
img-005.jpg - - - 002-2-img-005.jpg
img-006.jpg - - - 002-3-img-006.jpg

img-007.jpg - - - 003-1-img-007.jpg
img-008.jpg - - - 003-2-img-008.jpg
img-009.jpg - - - 003-3-img-009.jpg

In other words, I'd like to add a prefix/suffix to a group of "x" files & I'd like to sequence from 1 thru "x" within that group & repeat this for all selected files.

That's not my final naming scheme (I normally perform renaming in several steps for simplicity), but if I can get that far the rest is simple.

Thre's not really any way to do this in BRU, without using something external like excel. In effect whate you have is two autonumbers, one which resets itself every three entries.

You might get a bit closer using Bulk Rename Command, as this allows any of the renaming facilities to be used multiple times and in any order - but I still don't think it will do quite what you need I'm afraid.

I was "afraid" that couldn't be done, so I've rethought my problem. My new "best idea" (using "exposure bias value" in EXIF data) isn't currently available either.

If that's on the "to do" list, I'd certainly be happy.

Thanks for your quick response.

If exposure bias is one of the standard EXIF flags then I can probably make it available in BRU.

Everything I "know" about EXIF Properties is what is shown in Photoshop CS "File Info". "ExposureBiasValue" is one of many properties listed. I haven't the slightest idea of the location, format or other particulars of that data.

When I use "Auto Exposure Bracketing" in my digital cameras, 3 separate images are made; normally exposured, under exposured & over exposured. My Canon D60 & 20D DSLR camers allow setting the amount of over/under exposure in 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments. I use 1/3 stop. After shooting in JPG format, the values that I "see" are -6/3, 4/3, etc. Of course, these values probably are the result of "translation" by Photoshop.

The purpose of my original idea for this post was to know (from filenames) which image was normal, under or over exposed. Knowing the amount of over/under exposure is even better for me, because (for my own photographic reasons) my "normal exposure" is actually -1/3 stop. For a typical set of 3 of my images the ExposureBiasValues would be -1/3, -6/3, 4/3.

If you add the capability to capture this info I'll be so happy that I could "dance at your wedding", except that I'm too late for that. Congratulations! I hope you are happy for many years to come.

Yeah, it looks like Exposure Bias is one of the values available to me. I'm not sure how it's helf yet, but I'll have a go at including it.

I will probably have to represent it as 2.6, 2.3 etc, as 1/3 and 2/3 contains slashes which are invalid in filenames.

I'll get to this sometime soon-ish....
