Rename filenames with Pair List with various extensions

Postby Guido » Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:55 pm

Hi all,

I have 1 few 100 files in various fileformats that all have to be renamed.
Of all files I have a .psd a .jpg and a .tiff version. All placed in various subfolders.

I made pair list in excel saying:

file1|Newname1
file2|Newname2
file3|Newname3

This doesn't seem to work. Is there any workaround in BRU? maybe add wildcards to the pairlist?
I only need the filename to be changed, not the extension.

You need to include the file extension in both the old and new file names.

OldFileName.psd|NewFileName.psd
OldFileName.jpg|NewFileNname.jpg

ay.. that's a lot of work. No chance of adding wildcards to the pairlist?

Or another workaround?

If you have the list in Excel I can't see why it would be that much work to be honest.

You say you've got 3 of each file, one .jpg one .tif and one .psd, so presumably in one column you've got 3 names all the same followed by the next 3 matching names ec't

If that's correct just add the extensions in the next column then you can use that column to concatenate it to both the old file name and the new file name.
