Remove Fails due to Invalid Characters

Postby Crystal_Bearer » Tue Feb 27, 2018 1:56 am

Using only the remove box (5) and filter (12) (for hidden and subfolders), I select my files, and am hit with an error message that "One or more filenames contains an invalid character." Now, I'm not adding or changing their names, only removing text. So, why am I hitting this error, and how do I get around it?

Just an FYI: I'm trying to get rid of the stupid date stamp on everything after undoing a failed a system restore on Windows 10.

Would the (BRU) log record the filenames in question?
Do you have logging enabled? Check the log.

Do you know that your disk is in a valid state?
Maybe there are files/directories that are invalid to Windows?
IOW have you run CHKDSK?
(Backup first if need be.)

Are you trying to do this on a particular directory?
Entire disk?

Disk is valid, integrity is good. There is room. I am modifying the affected files in the User folder. There are 159636 files in question, though not all are being affected.

Frankly, that's moot, though, since I am only removing the timestamp from the files which have it, and not ADDING any invalid characters. Even if they did already have them, that shouldn't matter as they already exist.

Is there a way to get such a log? And if there was, I still don't think I could ever find it in that list, frankly.
