Placeholder files

Seems BRU doesn't like working with certain "placeholder" files (0 kB). When it encounters one, it throws a C++ runtime error. They're created by torrent programs (like Azureus)--I suppose they're seen as empty by the OS, but actually contain data visible to the torrent program.

Hi,

I don't think it's JUST the file size, I think it's the file size AND the options you have selected in BRU. I've just created a text document (right-click, new, text document) and it's 0 bytes long. BRU didn't complain.

Can you tell me what options you have ticked? Or better still, copy your Bulk Rename Utility.ini file here.

Yeah, regular empty files are no problem. It's these "special" files created that reserve space for data that will eventually be stored there (to avoid fragmentation problems).

Strange. I still can't break it!

Any chance you can send me one of these placeholder files? I don't use any P2P stuff. You have my email address.

For others, this was caused by the placeholder files having a .mp3 suffix, so BRU was attempting to extract the ID3 tags.

This will be corrected in the next release.
