simple renumbering question

Postby Braincramp » Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:09 am

I have bunches of jpg files that look like this: "1 012, 1 013, 1 014..." I want to change them to "177747S, 17748S, 17749S...". I have NO problem removing characters, NO problem inserting the correct numbers and sequencing them, BUT no matter what I try I get "S17747" instead of "17747S", i.e. I can't seem to suffix the "S". Suggestions?

P.S. Love BRU--I have 24,000 jpg on my computer.

Hi, and welcome.

Let me guess a little bit....

See, BRU do all renaming in one pass
with the settings from left to right you have set in the GUI (the Window)
So... in the GUI the "Add (7)"-option is more left then "Numbering (10)"

So i mean BRU do the "Add" renaming first... and then add the "Numbering" to the right.
Your solution should be to rename in two passes.
1.) do the "Numbering (10)"
2.) do the "Add (7)"

I hope this makes senses ? :D

Thanks Stefan!

The original question doesn't give many clues, but a possible alternative (if I'm guessing correctly) is to remove the existing number (digits) and add an autonumber as a prefix. That would work too, and in a single pass (though I'm making many assumptions about the original problem).

Hi Jim,

i think what you describe is what the user already does as i read from his first post.

His problem is that BRU do add an 'S' by "Add (7)" first to the new name
and then BRU puts the numbers after this 'S' ............ what's give us S12345.

..... but he want 12345S

That's why i say
do "Numbering(10)" in first pass
and then do "Add (7)" in an second pass.

*hoping telling not nonsense here* :D

True, but it depends if he's using an autonumber, as with autonumber you can apply it as a prefix or a suffix. So the order of processing doesn't matter in that case.
