Simple Question (I hope) about counting up from 1.

Postby onlineimages » Mon Sep 01, 2008 5:10 am

Hi there. I've been playing around with the utility for a while and can't seem to get it to do something really simple for me.

I've got a large folder of 4000 plus images that need to be printed that are numbered:

1
20
300
4000

This numbering causes problems with a particular printer I want to use because it will sort the numbers by 1's first (01 then 10 then 100). I need to keep things in order sequentially.

I need it to look like this:

0001
0020
0300
4000

using only 4 digits. IrFanView does this numbering by default. I'd like to start using BRU though!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Yep, it should be a simple answer too - just tick the Use Logical Sorting menu options (it's in the help file).

Thanks for the quick reply!

Logical sorting (I never knew there was a term for this) fixes things in the BRU explorer window but I still can't get it to add zeros and constrain numbers to #### 4 digits. Simply adding zeros as a prefix just gets me 1 = 0001 and 4000 = 0004000. How can I get it to rename and constrain at the same time?

Thanks again.

Assuming the numbers are the complete filenames or a prefix, or there's some other way that the files could be sorted or maybe temporarily put into separate folders by 1-2-3-4 digit numbers.

Select the 1-digit-number files & prefix "000".

Select the 2-digit-number files & prefix "00".

Select the 3-digit-number files & prefix "0".

Thanks. But is this the only way to go about doing this? I'm looking for more of a "one click solution" as I'm going to be repeating this process with many-many-many folders here at the studio from now on.

In IrfanView all I do is specify how many digits (using number signs #### ) and click rename! I was hoping to just use BRU though, it's a lot more flexible. I guess I'll have to stick with IrfanView for now (or use both).

Ok, just use the Autonumber feature, and specify a Pad value of 4.
