Keep Duplicate Files with Suffix (2), (3), (4) etc...

Good morning,

I am trying to rename 1,000 files or so.
Here's an example set of file names:
0123
0123 Red
0123 Black
0123 White

So far, I am able to remove the characters following the numbers, but when processing this, it won't replace the file names because the first one already exists.
How can I keep duplicate file names by adding a suffix such as (2), (3), (4) or _2, _3, _4, so that I end up with:
0123
0123_2
0123_3
0123_4

Thanks in advance for your help!

Search the forum to find this answer

or read the help:

Options Menu

Prevent Duplicates

This option allows to you to overcome the situation whereby a rename would fail because a file with the same name already exists.
If you try to rename a file, and there's already a file with the same name, the software will make up subsequent attempt to rename the file but with a "_1" suffix.
If this fails it will try with "_2" as the suffix, and will continue up to "_99".
The limit of 99, and the separator character (underscore, _) are currently fixed and cannot be changed.
