Some suggestions

Hi Jim, your program in GREAT!!!
Really unique!!

Some suggestions:

------ You could add a functionality with which you can remove several characters based on their position from the end of the filename.
(for example: you want to remove 2 characters before the last character of the filename:
123456789.txt ---------------> 1234569.txt

------ Another thing that could be really useful would be the ability to turn
only some letters (=a part) of the files you want into uppercase (or lowercase).
(for example: aaabbbccc.txt -------> aaaBBBccc.txt)

------ Make some hotkeys in order the extra functions to appear on screen (in the place where the "basic" ones were located -NOT next to them)
(for example F1: to show the "basic" options---as the app. looks now----,
(F1 will be also used to go back to the "basic" options if you have pressed F2 or F3)
F2: to show 10 other options,
F3: even more options (the ultra advanced/sofisticated ones !!!!!).

------ In the latest version I believe that the boxes 1,2, 3, 11 have become way too long. I think that you could fit in some extra controls/abilities if you want.

------ Lastly, an "Invert Selection" button in the "Actions Menu" would be very useful.

PS. Keep up the good work!!!!

Unfortunately most of these are too complex to implement, especially anything relating to showing "basic" of "advanced". The utility would need a radical rewrite in the code to support this logic.

You say that some controls have become too long. Well, that's only true if you run in reasonable resolutions. If you run in 800x600, which is the minimum for BRU, then the controls only just fit on the screen. As much as I would like to raise the minimum, as 800x600 is pathetic, I would alienate a lot of users.

The invert-selections feature has been requested by others too, and it's not too messy to do, so I'll try to incorporate that int the next release.

Hope this helps,

Jim

If you could only make the following two things (or just the 2nd one -even only for some of the first characters of the filename-)
I would be more than grateful.

Hi there.
Your program keeps on getting better with every new release!!
Well done!!

I dag up this thread, just to remind you of this:

Also, it would be better if the user could mark files,
besed on what he has put in the "Selections (11)" boxes,
but the unselected files to appear(=to remain) in the list also.

Hi,

I don't udnerstand your last item, can you explain? The Selections box is exactly that, to select which files are shown in the list?

Well, what I meant was

eg. I have these 3 files:
1.txt
2.txt
k.txt

and put "k*" (in box #11),

I'd like the program to display all three,
but just have k.txt selected
NOT to display only the "k.txt" file

And something more:
if would be better if -in box #11-
the user could also enter a word (or phrase) -not just wildcards-
and, every file that contains it in its name,
to be selected.

Can you give me an example of how Invert could be useful? It's not easy to implement, so I'd like to understand how you'd envisage it getting used.

"Invert Selection"

Postby KHL » Thu Jan 26, 2006 9:32 am

Black_Mark's request may be helpful for others, too, but if even Jim doesn't really understand what he's asking for, it doesn't bother me that myself hasn't understood anything related to his question...
I feel ashamed

May he add a screenshot for this specific topic? It may help Jim (and me, too) to "get behind this riddle"...

Black_Mark:
Please upload your screenshot(s) to http://www.imageshack.us/
Then add

Cheers

What I 'd like to happen, when I enter the word "one" as criteria
for every finename in where it's contained!!

And something more:

What if the extension -of the files appearing on the right-hand pane- was omited,
if the user wants to?

(In case he works with files which all are of the same kind)

I dag up this thread -again!!-, to ask you
whether there's a chance of adding these two things:
(because, otherwise, the program is getting better & better with every new release!!)
1.

I have it in my mind, exactly like the "Invert Selection" does in Windows Explorer:

About this, it's just like the Windows Explorer again,
when you have checked in options the "Hide extensions for known file types"

Hi,

1) I didn't even know there was an Invert button in Explorer, I've never used it. And I still can't see why it would be useul....

2) And again, why is this useful? I deliberately show the file-extension in BRU, regardless of the users' Explorer settings, as I figure this would be more useful. Am I wrong?
