Can't see any list of files in any folder

I apologize if my question has somewhere been answered. The search terms I used
produced no usable results.

My question is very basic. When I start the application, and select the folder, in which I want to rename files, I see a message "No items match your search". There definitely are files in that folder.

Further, the message itself is confusing. I didn't do any search. I picked a folder. The use of the word "search" when no search has been done, suggests to me some sort of malfunction.

I need to be able to see the names of files in the folder. If there's no way to do this, please advise. I'll uninstall this software and move-on.

l have used computers for over 30 years, so I'd be much obliged if it were presumed that I have mastered at least the basics.
