Transfer date from filename to metadata "date taken" tag

Postby CatConspiracy » Fri Oct 09, 2015 8:46 am

I have several gigabytes of family photos that I want to upload to Google Photos. Unfortunately the time tag for these images are in the filename rather than then in the "date taken" metadata tag. Is there any way to transfer the date that's in the filename to the "date taken" metadata tag? The file names usually go like this
"1996 0904 (1)" "1996 0904 (2)" = Year MonthDay

Hi and welcome, CatConspiracy.

Would you please modify the subject line of your post to
something more fitting your real RENAMING problem,
so one can guess what this thread is about?

The thing you wrote is evident per se.

Thank you.

Hi admin, thanks for helping out.

Hi CatConspiracy,

Bulk Rename Utility is a tool to modify the NAME of files and folders.

For manipulating the meta-data of files, like the date-taken tag,
there are dedicated tools, like for EXIF information in image files
there is Phil Harveys' ExifTool and others.
