Renaming based on existing name

Hello all,

I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but without any success or findable answers on the great, vast plains of the internet.
And so I come unto you for help. What I'm trying to accomplish is as follows:

0001.jpg => 0001.jpg
0002.jpg => 0002.jpg
0003.jpg => 0003.jpg
0004-01.jpg => 0004-01.jpg
0004-02.jpg => 0004-02.jpg
0005.jpg => 0005.jpg
0007-01.jpg => 0006-01.jpg
0007-02.jpg => 0006-02.jpg
0007-03.jpg => 0006-03.jpg
0008.jpg => 0007.jpg
0009.jpg => 0008.jpg

Or in other words, I want rename the files to not skip any numbers, while keeping the grouped images (with a hypen) the same, non-incremental number.
In reality this list goes on until the initial number reaches over 1000 with over 1500 images. I can still rename the files in smaller batches, of course, but I'm wondering if what I want is possible with BRU in the first place.

So, is there anyone that might know?
