Help Please! Incrementing numbers

Hi all,

I have managed to figure out the basics of the BRU app but I am sure there are features which I'm not using to their best potential. For context: I use BRU for renaming monthly invoicing files. Each file is assigned to an individual and the invoice number changes on a monthly basis. I am aware that there are half a million invoicing software programs that can automatically generate new invoice numbers for you, but I am old school and prefer using Excel for my invoices.

Each month will have about 47 files and they all follow the same format for naming:

INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027696 BOSWELL
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027697 BUCHANAN
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027698 CARRIE
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027699 CROUSE
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027700 DAY
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027701 DEY
.... etc until
INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027743 WILLIAMS

I've figured out how to replace the name of the month within the file (e.g. INVOICING - MANUAL - AUG 24 - IN027696 BOSWELL to INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027696 BOSWELL), but what I'd like to be able to do is update the invoice number each month too.

In the abovementioned file names, September's invoices would then become:
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027744 BOSWELL
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027745 BUCHANAN
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027746 CARRIE
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027747 CROUSE
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027748 DALA
INVOICING - MANUAL - SEPT 24 - IN027749 DEY
.... etc

So each new invoice number follows the previous one (starting from the last number of the previous month).

Is this possible to do using BRU? And where would I even start? Replace? Auto Date? Numbering?

Hello,

This can be done with a Javascript routine, but it is not that straightforward as you would need to enter the starting number each time etc
Since the files are not that many each month, maybe you could export the file names to Excel, change the files names there, and re import them into BRU for renaming?
