Compare and rename files

Postby grewer » Thu Mar 20, 2025 8:48 am

Hello I am new here,

maybe this question was already asked once, bu I didn't find it. I am wondering if there is a way to compare and rename?

So in my case I have video files from the camera in one folder and video files from the external recorder in the other folder. The files have the same lenght (plus minus a couple of frames sometimes) and also the exact number of files is in each folder. Now I would like to populate the camera files same as the ones from the external recorder, so it would be a rather simple compare and and rename action I figure. Is something like that possible with the BRU?

Best,
Gregor

I think Rename Pairs, under Actions, is probably the best approach.

Under Actions => Import Rename-Pairs. Requires a .csv or .txt file with corresponding file name pairs in format described in Help => Contents => Additional Features => Renaming From A Text File.

My problem is with a vast number of audio files, so producing a text file for each folder becomes prohibitive. It would be great if I could save the file names in each folder and then merge in some way to form the final text file. Even better if there were two panes, one for each folder with a simple copy command!! One can only wish .....

You can use import rename pairs across sub-folders with absolute paths if that helps
