Bulk Rename Utility How-To's

I may have lost the Scroll Bar.

Postby stubaz » Tue Feb 03, 2026 8:03 am

Hi,

I have a small problem, I can't scroll down with a large amount of files on view. I'm sure I used to be able to do this, but now I have to use my mouse wheel to scroll up or down. Wasn't there the usual windows scroll gadget at the extreme right hand side of the file name box?

When I have a large number of files on view it can take ages to get to a specific file. I've combed the menu for hints but I may be missing something. :-)

Thankyou for a wonderful piece of software.

Kind regards Stu

Hi Stu, thanks for the kind words.

A few things to check and options to make navigating large lists faster.

Quick checks
- Click once inside the file list to give it keyboard focus, then try PageUp / PageDown, Home / End or the arrow keys to move quickly.
- Hover the mouse over the list area (not a control panel) when using the mouse wheel — the wheel only scrolls the control under the pointer.
- If the vertical scrollbar really isn’t visible, try resizing the main window or the right-hand pane — the scrollbar lives at the right edge of the file list pane.

Ways to see more files / make scrolling easier
- Expand the file list: Actions Menu -> List -> Expand File List (or press Ctrl+F9).
- Maximize the file list: Actions Menu -> List -> Maximize File List (or press F9).
- Reduce the font size to show more rows: Display Options -> Font -> Zoom Out (or Reset to revert).
- Autofit columns or hide some columns so the list shows more rows: Display Options -> List -> Autofit All Columns / Select Columns.
- Use typing to jump: with the list focused, start typing the file name to jump to that entry.

If none of those help
- If the scrollbar has disappeared entirely or the list won’t scroll with keyboard/wheel even when focused, please tell me: your Windows version, the Bulk Rename Utility version (Help -> About), and how many files / whether Subfolders is enabled.

Hello Admin.

Thank you for the speedy reply,
I tried everything you mentioned, but sadly no joy with the scroll bar. After much fiddling around I decided to uninstall and re-install. That fixed my problem. I now have the scroll bar visible and operating

By the way, everything else was working perfectly prior to the uninstall. I could use the keyboard fast scroll etc. It was just that darned scroll bar which wasn't visible.
To answer you questions I'm using the latest Windows 10 (The final Version) The latest BRU version (4.1.0.1. 64 bit) and file numbers vary from 100 to 17,000. Sub folders disabled. If I did enable it the number would be close to 200,000 so,ething I haven't tried.

I haven't given a donation as yet, mainly due to being on a disabled Veteran's pension, But with my bank manager's (Wife) blessing she's OK'd a release from the purse strings and I'll send something to show my gratitude for such a wonderful program.

Kind regards and blessings for 2026 Stu
