Sort by date taken not working in new version?

In the previous version 'taken (original)' was how I sorted my files to rename. It isn't working in the new version. The first time I loaded the program, this sort option prompted me to go to renaming options > extract EXIF data and check this for on. I have done this, but still not EXIF data / dates show. I have checked my files and they definitely have the date taken EXIF data. Can anyone help please?
