subfolders: "There are no selected items that need renaming"

Hello, I'm trying to rename extensions .txt as .gss in the current folder and all subfolders. So in Replace (3) I replace .txt with .gss, and in Filters (12) I check the Subfolders box. Then I select all (highlight all) in the parent folder. However, I can only rename files in the parent folder, not the subfolders. Once the files in the parent folder are renamed, I get the message "There are no selected items that need renaming." I have to click individually inside every subfolder to get to those files. How can I rename everything at once? Thanks.

Rename Options | File/Folder Extensions, you'll want to enable, 'Rename File Extensions As Being Part of File Name'.
