Suffix alternating -- text & numbering

Bulk Rename Utility How-To's

Suffix alternating -- text & numbering

Hello all!

I've used bulk rename utility with a lot of success to organize and renumber photo files over the past several years and it's worked great.

I intend to setup a new archive of security photos from a set of cameras and would like to use the rename tool to organize the photos by location. There will be several hundred files at a time to rename, all with the same alpha/numeric prefix. This should be followed by numeric code that will be the same for the next 7 files. After that, I need to add a suffix pattern that goes: [CS, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07] and then repeats over and over again. Here's an example of the format I'm looking for given a set of 32 files:

AA1-0001-CS
AA1-0001-01
AA1-0001-02
AA1-0001-03
AA1-0001-04
AA1-0001-05
AA1-0001-06
AA1-0002-CS
AA1-0002-01
AA1-0002-02
AA1-0002-03
AA1-0002-04
AA1-0002-05
AA1-0002-06
AA1-0003-CS
AA1-0003-01
AA1-0003-02
AA1-0003-03
AA1-0003-04
AA1-0003-05
AA1-0003-06
AA1-0004-CS
AA1-0004-01
AA1-0004-02
AA1-0004-03
AA1-0004-04
AA1-0004-05
AA1-0004-06

Etc.

I've read through the manual several times and can't figure out how to get the 7 files to be the same number and then the suffix pattern bit....

Can someone help me with this? Thank you so much in advance!

Hi, can you give some examples of the FROM file names please? This can be done with BRU Javascript I expect.

An example would be:

DSC_0131.jpg, DSC_0132.jpg, DSC_0133.jpg, etc.
