Simplify Complexity of BRU Screen. Collapse Unused Sections

I love Bulk Rename Utility and use it at least once per week, sometime several times per week.

I rave about BRU to my friends who use computers a lot or who have to deal with a lot of files.

It is a great way for anyone who wants to become a "power user" and needs to rename lots of files, but without have to learn to code.

However, most people are intimidated by the complexity. I was intimidated until I just grit my teeth and

It took me more than 2 or 3 tries to learn it. I turned away because of its complexity at least twice.
The application takes up a LOT of screen because it presents all functionality at once.

It would great if we could collapse seldom-used sections to move them out of the way.

A key design requirement for greater usability is to hide as much complexity as possible and only reveal it when it is called for. There are many ways to do this.

- Toolbar with Icons to Hide/Show Tools
- Accordion sections.
- Checkbox configuration panel.

Hi! In the latest version some features in this regard were added, please see:

You can now detach the renaming criteria in a separate window and then show / hide the groups as you need, and you can also expand the file list to occupy most of the screen.

Hello,
I've looked through the options, but is there a way to have the renaming criteria fields show at the bottom of the program like in the previous version?
Thank you,
Todd

Yes, by default the options are below the list like previous versions, optionally you can move them in a separate top-most window and place them anywhere on the screen.

Thank you. But once I detached the Renaming Options, they will no longer dock at the bottom of the window. Using F12 only shows/hides the floating window.
How do I get it to redock to the main window?

To expand or collapse the file list in Bulk Rename Utility, use these shortcuts:

- Expand File List: Press Ctrl+F9 to make the file list bigger by collapsing some renaming controls.
- Maximize File List: Press F9 to make the file list as big as possible by collapsing most renaming controls.

These options allow you to adjust the size of the file list area. These options are found under the Display Options menu too.
