Question About the Level Filter During Scans

Postby yovimo6282 » Fri Jun 19, 2026 9:57 am

Hi,

I was experimenting with the filters and set the lvl field to =1, expecting the scan to be restricted to the top level only. However, the application still appeared to process all lower levels as well, and the overall scan time was about the same.

For this test, I was using a RegEx filter with both Folders and Subfolders enabled.

Am I misunderstanding how the lvl filter works? I had assumed that limiting the level to 1 would prevent deeper directories from being scanned and therefore speed things up.

Can anyone clarify whether the level filter affects the scan itself or only the results that are returned?

Thanks!

If you want top level only, uncheck Subfolders.

What happens with Subfolders, is that it scans top level, plus, lvl=1 of the "top level" subfolders (if you will).

Code: Select all
c:
|   abc.txt
|   def.txt
|   ghi.txt
+   dir2\
+   dir2\jkl.txt
+   dir2\dir3\123.pdf
+   dir2\dir3\456.pdf
+   dir2\lev.txt

With Subfolders & Folders, it will find abc, def, ghi, dir2\ & also dir2\ "lvl=1" items, so, jkl.txt & lev.txt
Without Subfolders, but with Folders, it will find abc, def, ghi & dir2\
Without Subfolders or Folders, it will find abc, def, ghi

Code: Select all
C:.
