Most times it's much easier - for me anyway - to get an overview and see the results in the clean preview window than showing only affected files in the main window, regardless of view mode.
Maybe a column with an "exclude" check box for each file? And as for renaming I guess you should be able to rename it manually and either let it be processed from there like the rest of the files, or check the exclude box to keep the edited name.
I have to admit I haven't thought it through completely.
But I hope one of the fun things being a software developer is to make clever decisions about things like this! But I suspect that that also goes for even implementing things in the first place...
