Add a check box that when selected by a user:
1 - Identifies when more than one file in a folder shares the same original name but in different file formats. Eg. Image_01.NEF and Image_01.XMP
2 - automatically applies the same new filename to them both as determined by whichever file is first in the list in the instance of adding numbering.
This is particularly valuable to photographers who regularly need to rename large quantities of RAW image files.
If a RAW image has been edited or had any metadata changed, a sidecar .XMP file is created within the same folder with the same name.
In order for these edits/metadata to be attached to the RAW file, these files must maintain the same filename.
Adding a sort by file type column and renaming in type batches would not solve the problem as there may be a different number of some file types to others.
Neither does sorting by the existing "size" column as this might order the RAWS and XMPs differently, resulting in mismatched names if renamed in batch/sequence.
