file and folder name translation

Postby rnm001 » Mon Feb 17, 2025 8:17 pm

I have some file names in Spanish that I would like to automatically translate into English - it could be done manually but there are a lot!

I don't currently see this capability in the utility; however I do see that there is a github-based utility which uses Google Translate API to do this.

It would be neat if something like this could be integrated or implemented in the utility! I bet others would find it useful as well.

Hi, which utility can do this? This would be an interesting feature to add. 8)

Hi:

This is the first utility that Google gave me: https://github.com/kdomasze/Filename-Translator

Another was a standalone utility that translates (insofar as I can tell) only filenames and seems to be limited to the files in single folders: https://github.com/Axter-com/TranslateFileNames

It would be nice to have a utility that would translate both folder and file names. I think a workaround might be to use BRU to rename the files to include the folder names - which would be useful in my particular project - and then combine all the files into one or a few folders, then use the second utility to rename the files. However the single step process would be cleaner...

Cheers Richard

I should have noted, perhaps, that my problem starts with a large number of graphic files spread across a similarly large number of folders - the folders have names in Spanish and the files variable names with some of them identical (eg: 'image.jpg'....). When the names are identical they need to be kept in their own folders - but if they can be appropriate changed (by embedding the folder name) then it isn't so important to keep them separate.
