rename file extensions as num sequence?

I can't see how to rename the file extensions as a numbered sequence. Someone made an archive but numbering is wrong. The numbering module does not support renaming extensions. Any tips appreciated!
BTW- I think BRU is one of the most useful and satisfying software programs I have ever used in my entire life. Thanks!

I found a way.

add any extension (I used .1)
remove old numbers
add suffix numbering how you want it (including period before)
remove extension (the .1 you added)
viola!
