Remove (5) - Chars: >ÿ

Postby TheGhost78 » Sat Mar 08, 2025 5:35 am

Following the latest update, I added >ÿ into Chars within Remove (5) and saved it in several .BRU files. Sometimes when I open a .BRU file it displays as >ÿ.

I do sometimes edit the .BRU files directly in Notepad rather than editing within the program, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Which program are you using to edit the BRU file and then save it?

You need to make sure that the file is saved as UTF-16 (the same encoding as BRU saves them).
If they are saved as UTF-8 or other encoding, then that might confuse Bulk Rename Utility.

The default Notepad program in Windows 10. I'm checking them now.

The vast majority are UTF-16 LE; a few are UTF-8 and some are ANSI. Could the UTF-16 encoding be enforced, even if editing in Notepad?

Is the encoding something that could be added to Extract Windows File Properties?

Bulk Rename Utility would not be able to control how Notepad saves the files. If you open those utf-8 files in Notepad and save them as utf-16, then they will work.
