Mass Rename Help

Postby alerthost » Wed May 15, 2013 11:12 am

Hi Guys, been searching but cant figure out how to do this.

Okay I have a load of folders:

e.g.

Argo
Skyfall
The Hobbit
Harry Potter
Inside each of these folders is a bunch of files, e.g.

.srt
.mp4
.jpeg

What settings do I need so I can just select the Films folder with these folders in it, and rename them all like that,

Is this possible?

Thanks a lot!

I can't understood what you are after. Do you want to rename with parent folder name? Then, there are options to remove file name and others to add folder name. Try to explain yourself better, best with 'before' and 'after' path\names.

And BTW, a subject like "Mass Rename Help" for a topic in a renamer forum is not that clever. Please use a better fitting explanation to your issue as subject.

Hi,

So for example at the minute I have a folder called Films,

In that folder there are more folders each with a film in (.avi .mp4) etc and maybe a .txt and .srt

Image

Here is an example of the files inside, so as you see

The Folder is A Haunted House, so I want all files in that folder to be named the same as the Folder

Image

I have around 2000 Folders in Total so doing it manually will take for ages!

Hopefully that makes a little more sense now.

Thank You

Rename files with parent folder name in every sub folder

Postby Stefan » Thu May 23, 2013 9:57 pm

Rename files with parent folder name

Question:
One main top folder
many sub folders each with a film in (.avi .mp4) etc and maybe a .txt and .srt
so I want all files in that folder to be named the same as the (parent) Folder

FROM
TopFolder\Board Index\file xyz.avi
TopFolder\Board Index\file xyz.mp4
TopFolder\Board Index\file xyz.txt
TopFolder\Board Index\file abcd.srt
TopFolder\Bulk Rename Utility\file ghuj.avi
TopFolder\Bulk Rename Utility\file htng.srt
TopFolder\BRU Support\file qwert.mp4
TopFolder\BRU Support\file rtzu.txt
TopFolder\BRU Support\file bnmk.srt

TO
TopFolder\Board Index\Board Index.avi
TopFolder\Board Index\Board Index.mp4
TopFolder\Board Index\Board Index.txt
TopFolder\Board Index\Board Index.srt
TopFolder\Bulk Rename Utility\Bulk Rename Utility.avi
TopFolder\Bulk Rename Utility\Bulk Rename Utility.srt
TopFolder\BRU Support\BRU Support.mp4
TopFolder\BRU Support\BRU Support.txt
TopFolder\BRU Support\BRU Support.srt

DO

Warning first
if you have more then one file with same extension in one folder, this method will lead to error messages due to duplicate file names.
Read the help about Options menu > Prevent Duplicates.
Test this with copies of your files or be sure to have a recent backup.

USE
- Browse to your top folder
- Selection(12) [X]Subfolders
- File(2) Remove
- Append Folder Name(9) Prefix

Hints:
Select the file in the name column to see if something happens.
Take a preview in the new names column before actual renaming.
