Original file date

I just started using this amazing application and have been able to understand most of how it works. The numbering facility in particular is awesome. One thing that I can't seem to get is how to change the order of file names imported from a directory. However they are ordered in the original directory, they default to Name/Alphabetical order once imported, although this order can be reversed. I want to sort them by original file date (date created), which the original directory recognizes. I looked through the database and found a few topics that seem to deal with this but because it is a new application for me, the language is confusing and I can't seem to grasp how to do it.
