How to remove only a few symbols but not others

Postby Sven » Wed Nov 16, 2011 11:50 am

Hye all

I was just wondering if it was possible to remove only a few symbols. I don't want to remove all of these
! £ $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = + [ ] { } ; : ' @ # ~ , . < > / ? \ | ` ¬ ¦

but only
\ / : * ? " < >

which are not supported on windows.

But when i tried with the replace function (replace \ with blank) i got the following error message
One or more filename contain an invalid character. The following characters are invalid in Windows filenames: /:*\?"<>|

How can i manage to get past through this ?

GDay All,

Windows will not allow you to use those symbols so they will never appear in any windows based filename, full stop.

It's pointless trying to remove something that isn't there.

Hye Trumpy

In fact there is a function in Bulk Renamer that removes all special character including
\ / : * ? " < >

but it also removes
& [ ]

It's perfectly working, but i don't want the " - " character to be removed, so i wonder if there is a way ?

Have you tried entering the ones you want removed in the Chars box of the Remove(5) section?
I put _[] there and it removed these from any names containing them. I don't have any other symbols in my filenames to test but this would allow you to select only what you want removed and leave the hyphens etc.
