Renaming files across multiple directories?

Hi

I need to rename several thousand files that are apread across hundreds of directories. The dirs are named sequentially, which is data I need to preserve, so I cannot just move the files in each dir to one big dir, or the order would be messed up. Once the files are renamed, I will move all the files to one big dir.

I am pretty sure I have done this before in BRU, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to do it now.
