Favourites, Startup Options, Preferences

Postby musikman1 » Fri May 13, 2011 3:44 am

This is a kick-butt utility, congrats!

This is a very nit-picky "buglet" that has confounded me:

I have a specific folder that is the "jumping off" place of every instance that I use BRU. However, my attempts to get BRU to access this folder on startup has met with dismal failure on my part.

System: WinXP-SP3, 2Gb RAM, 300GB free disk space.
BRU: Installed in C:\Program Files\Bulk Rename Utility
Running V2.7.1.2

Used Notepad to load Bulk Rename Utility.ini and changed:

Saved As Bulk Rename Utility.ini
Saved As rick.bru

- I have edited the Bulk Rename Utility.ini file, no success.
- I have resaved as Bulk Rename Utility.bru, no success
- I have resaved as rick.bru, no success upon running BRU, but can't find any "help" file that shows how to call up a specific "favourite" in the command line.
- I have resaved as rick.bru, no success upon running BRU, then Open, and selecting rick.bru
- I have browsed to the folder, then immediately exited using File -> Exit
- I have browsed to the folder, then immediately File -> Save
- I have browsed to the folder, then immediately File -> Save As (gives no popup to name the .bru file, just exits like Save)

I'm sure I'm just missing a FAQ or USER MANUAL somewhere along the line. I read the entire CHM file, as well as browsed the heck out of it via the HELP util, no go.

Feel free to slap me with a trout and then point me to my mistake.

Cheers!

As far as i understood
you want to start BRU every time with the same working folder opened?

* start BRU
* browse to the folder
* be sure all rules are set to default (or like you want)
* use "File > Save as..." and save the current settings to f.ex. the BRU folder as f.ex. "MyWorkingDir"

Next time you start BRU it will automatically open that folder for you.

-----------------------------

For references:

This is how my "Bulk Rename Utility.ini" is saved:
Code: Select all
[Preferences]
Favourite Path="H:\BulkRenameUtilitie\Favorites\MyWorkingDir.bru"
Rename Pairs Path=""
Auto Save Favourite On Exit=0
Store Favourite Pathnames=0

You see, as "Favourite Path" in the INI there is an link to the *.bru file to load.

And in my "MyWorkingDir.bru" favorite file there is the default folder ("C:\Temp") to load at startup:
Code: Select all
[General]
Path="C:\Temp"
[Regular Expressions]

HTH? :D

(If you are interested: There is an thread somewhere about DEFAULT.bru, >>> http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3468#p3468)
