BRU requesting Reinstall on each PC bootup

Postby gandelf » Sat Sep 02, 2006 4:20 am

I cannot find any other support query relating to this issue.
Having installed an earlier version of Bulk Rename, which worked splendidly, I decided to install the latest version 2.3.7.2, only to discover that everytime I boot my computer up, the installation program appears requesting an install!
i.e. "your computer has an installation of bulk rename utility 2.3.7.2. What do you want to do?"
The menu screen presents 3 options: Reinstall, Repair, Uninstall.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled-same problem.
I am running WinXP sp1, 2GB RAM, 3.2 P4 cpu, variety of other programs...no conflicts to date...
Presumably the BRU settings are wiped out, or something else is interfering with the installation.
My Zone Alarm firewall is configured correctly for this, and antispam SpamPal does not reflect any conflicts, so what could be going on...?
I will try zipped version without the installer first, then the beta version...if successful, will repost resolution.
But if any one has encountered this problem, would appreciate feedback.

Hi,

Would you mind posted the *exact" wording of the message please.

Also, can you check the Windows Event Viewer (start, run, eventvwr.msc) and have a look to see if the same error is listed there (probably in the Application log), as that way you can do a copy-paste.

You have a decent spec PC (2GB RAM, P4 3.2) yet you'r eonly running XP SP1. Any reason for not running SP2? That could be partof the problem maybe, I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, please post accurate details of the error (googling for "your computer has an installation" returns no results, so it doesn't look like it's quite accurate).

Many thanks,

Hi again,

please could you run REGEDIT and check the following registry keys:

- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

...and look for a value that has as its Data something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tarma
Installer\{...guid...}\Setup.exe

...or perhaps:

C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\TARMAI~1\{...stuff...}\SETUP.EXE

If so, then please could you email me a screen shot, and then DELETE the registry value.

TARMA Intaller wanting to reinstall...

Postby gandelf » Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:48 pm

Hi Jim;
I located the Tarma Installer Shield deleting on reboot key in the registry under:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and have deleted the registry entry, and will reboot...
In regard to installing sp2-forget it...I have been down that road, and found that it has too many conflicts with software I have installed...
As confirmed by user net and slashdot groups I check out ...

But my point was why, when using a previous version of bulk rename, I had no problems...when this latest version does this...
Is this a bug in the Tarma installer itself?

Tarma Installer requesting reinstall

Postby gandelf » Mon Sep 04, 2006 6:17 am

HI Jim:
After deleting the tarma key in the registry, I have not had the same request on reboot, so it seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you for your speedy reply...
The program's very useful, and I will donate accordinly.

it could be a bug in Tarma Installer yes. I've forwarded the details onto their support group.

Glad it's sorted for you though.
