The signature of BRU_setup_3.0.0.0.exe is corrupt or invalid

Postby jacobpressures » Sat Jan 16, 2016 1:58 am

I'm getting the following message when I download the file on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit machine:

The signature of BRU_setup_3.0.0.0.exe is corrupt or invalid.

What should I do?

I has a delete button the delete the file and the message appears with a red border.

I downloaded both versions at this point.

This is where I downloaded the file from: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php

I also tried the No Installer. When I downloaded it I got Windows Smart Screen in RED. It said it was a unrecognized file. It was pretty scary and suggested I don't run the file.

The regular exe I downloaded 3 times.

I just checked my Windows 10 Home tablet. It is not giving me the same message. I've never seen this before, so I don't know what to make of it.

Sha1 certificates are deprecated. Windows 7 and up no longer trust executables that are signed by them, effective since january 1 2016.

Here is the reference from microsoft.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/32288.windows-enforcement-of-authenticode-code-signing-and-timestamping.aspx

Sha1 is no longer considered secure to prevent tampering.

The certificate used to sign the install needs to be updated to a more current hashing technology.

While that is the case, & BRU should not be using sha-1 for its certificates, I don't think that is the cause of the issue here.

Confirmed, 3.0.0.1 is now running on XP.

Thank you.

Oh, so it was basically a matter of setting Operating System Version: correctly.
(Prior was 6.0, current is 5.1.)
