Random folders take a lifetime to load, or crash

Hey there. I've got some folders were the drive really takes a toll - intensive use (2, 15, sometimes even 50, 80+ MB/s according to task manager), something like at least 1 second-load-time per file (you can see them slowly appearing like that), or BRU straight up crashing (tough most often it's just the file folder view paralysed, while the rest works fine). I've successfully renamed dozens of folders, on the same drive, with the same type of content (just images, not photos so they aren't much big each), some of them with much higher file count (I'm getting the problem on a folder with just 500 files). They're very specific folders too - that is to say, this isn't the program randomly slowing down on whatever folder I'm working with, rather they're the very same folders, always. I don't think anything's corrupted within the folders - it loads up quick just like any other folder on Windows, and I can see the images just fine.

Any idea? This happens from startup, no JS script check or anything like that. All fields empty.

What are the file extensions of the files in the folder?

Do other applications - windows explorer, file manager, image viewer... have trouble opening the same folder?

They're almost all .png I believe, which I've successfully worked with before on others folders. Nothing odd like extremely long filenames either. I checked the drive's SMART data and it's fine, too. Windows explorer opens it fine, image viewer opens them fine, I've even used Voidtools "Everything" which indexes the drive's files and the list of files inside this folder load up quick.

edit: I've tried the same operation on the same folders (external drive) on another computer, which didn't have BRU installed prior to this, and it worked perfectly! I will try uninstalling-reinstalling BRU on my main machine and see how it goes.

edit2: didn't fix it. I can't imagine what it could be, though. They're both running Windows 8.

Hi,

You could try installing BRU into a different place, or drive. I think their's a portable versions in the downloads section.

I remember seeing some post about .zip files being near or in the same path as BRU causing problems.

I've fixed the problem! I think it's a bug, and a very specific one at that. My computer indexes thumbnails with a program called SageThumbs, which as it appears, was somehow clashing with BRU. The fact that the computer were the same folders worked properly didn't have SageThumbs installed, and that disabling icons on Display Options > List fixes the issue on the one were it is installed makes me think this was the root of the issue.

XnView and Imagine Both make shell extensions for thumbs, Imagine browser cam open .zip and .rar with addons,
So you might try 1 of these if you keep having problems.

I'm just gonna disable icons on BRU, I don't need them so it's not a problem. And thanks much for staying with me guys!
