Hello boys and girsl,

Does anyone have a profile I can use to remove special characters on a filename and folder. I want to rename a whole network directory and
prepare it for SharePoint Office 365 migration. I want to remove all these.

Tilde (~)
Number sign (#)
Percent (%)
Ampersand (&)
Asterisk (*)
Braces ({ })
Backslash (\)
Colon (:)
Angle brackets (< >)
Question mark (?)
Slash (/)
Plus sign (+)
Pipe (|)
Quotation mark (")

Thank you and I appreaciate the help.

Use "Special (14) / Character translations"

Open the Character Translations dialogue box and put one character change on each line, if you want to replace the characters with a space just leave a space after the character, if you don't want to replace the character with anything leave out the space.

Example:

-=
#=
%=
&=
*=
{=
}=
|=
:=
<=
>=

Be aware that using the reset button does not delete the character translations from the dialogue box, you need to delete them manually.

HI Ken ,

Thanks for the reply. It works but I dont believe it works on everry file /folder

I have a couple issues

% symbol . I wanted to change to the word percent. that didn't work. I used %=percent

I also notice the rename button is grayed put eventhough I have the folder where I want this tool to go
through and rename files..not sure whats causing that.

To change % to percent change the character translation to:

%=p,e,r,c,e,n,t

The Rename button will remain greyed out until you have selected a file who's name can be changed with the character translations you've typed into the dialogue box.

I think you'll find that the Rename button always remains greyed out until a valid renaming sequence (for want on a better phrase) is detected.

the box for rename is grayed out the only time the rename box comes up if i slect the files that have the percent sign. Kind of beats the purpsoe on what im trying to do. What am i doding wrong

Hi,

Tick subfolders if you want it to scan deep into subfolders. (Bottom of dashboard)

ctr+a to select all files or use the top menu.
It will only change the files names you have selected + match your rename criteria. Files/ folders affected will show in the second collum.
