Extraction of ID3/Exif data is optional.
If you disable that, does the issue subside?

If so, could you post somewhere a sample picture w/Exif that causes the issue.

**EDIT** Turing off "show icons" in the display options fixed my problem. Don't know how it got changed in the first place but at least now it's fixed.

I confirm the above information regarding turning off show icons fixes the issue for Not Responding.

Thanks Jezza

I had an extremely similar problem. Disabling icons did not work for me, even after rebooting. I found a different solution that might help some of you.

My issue was that BRU would hang for about 2 minutes anytime I would try to navigate to a certain media folder, or any of its subfolders. During this time BRU was unresponsive, but if you waited it would eventually navigate where you selected. I noticed that in the root media folder there was a 13gb .zip file that contained hundreds of thousands of files. The instant I deleted that .zip file BRU became snappy. I guess BRU was searching inside that zip file each time I tried to navigate to a subfolder. The zip file was always listed BRU's left hand navigation page, which must by why BRU was hung up by it.

I think I solved this problem. Yes BRU kept crashing on me every so often for no reason.
This has only happened though in windows 10. In windows 7 I never had a problem with it
crashing.

So I said what was I doing differently. Well in windows 7 the only way I could get to a
folder on my desktop in bru was to go to the left panel and first choose the system folder C,
then the user folder, then the actual user, then the desktop.

In window 10 many times you do not have to go through those steps you could just choose
this pc, then desktop. Well for some reason sometimes windows 10 will freeze up on you
trying to do it this way. So just do it the windows 7 way and it should work fine. hth

I had the same or a similar problem like Jedakiah described. Upon navigating to a certain folder BRU just froze. disabling displaying icons didn't work. Navigating to the parent folder works fine, but trying open any of the folders in this directory was practically impossible. Trying to expand the navigation tree there (clicking the plus on the parent folder) resulted in the same problem, and this seems to be the root of the problem in my case.

Like Jedakiah I had a large zip file. A few of them actually, all located in the parent folder. I moved the zip files to a seperate folder and could now open any of the folders in the parent folder without any problems. When a folder is opened, the navigation tree expands on the parent folder. I could also open the folder with the zip-files in it. However, clicking the plus sign on this folder (filled with zip-files) would once again freeze BRU.

Tested with 2.7.1.2 and 3.0.0.1

The issue is that BRU scans inside ZIP files too and if the zip files are very large they can freeze BRU. We will fix this in the new release. :)
We will also fix the icon issue on Win 10.

Now, if ZIP is the issue, which I do not doubt, it doesn't necessarily seem to be consistently reproducible.
Are you aware of other factors that play in to actually getting a hang/crash?

-------

Oh, so opening said ZIP, UXP-PM28.1.0_Release.zip in this case, directly through Windows Explorer, causes WE to hang.
So by BRU using the same functionality (windows services) also hangs.
Even so, there is still something else figuring into the equation, I think.
As in if you point to a subdirectory of the directory that contains the ZIP, you still will hang?
So what, BRU scans the parents of tree your pointing to, even though they are immaterial to the directory wanted?
As in I paste in this path, C:\TMP\SEA\LeechFTP\VID, yet the ZIP resides in C:\TMP\SEA\LeechFTP\.

(When I ran into this my first two thoughts were non-ascii names & zip [based on the whatishangreport].)

-------

So, I've now run into this.

I've been able to duplicate this.
Though I've not yet figured out the cause?
