Specific .jpg files cause BRU to crash

Postby dan_pub » Tue Apr 10, 2018 10:13 pm

I have tracked down a file which causes BRU to crash if it is present in a folder. I use BRU 3.0.0.1 on Windows 7 Professional SP1.
At first I thought that there was some strange character in its name, but it crashes BRU under any name. It does so even if it is the single file in that folder.

The problem is linked to something in the EXIF data and the way BRU handles it, because the crash does not happen if I de-select "extract Exif data" before switching to that folder. (I normally keep it on)
Unfortunately my drive has several such files, because the issue happens in several folders.

To help ID the cause, I have uploaded one crash-inducing file here: https://vgy.me/yXgZ5V.jpg
(Safe for work, it is only a small photo of a Westland helicopter waiting for maintenance)

Is the problem known? Any known workaround?

@dan,

On your end, what is the date of the file?

The problem is linked to something in the EXIF data

I'm not seeing any EXIF data in the helicopter shot (not that I'm good at that stuff) ?

(Appears that:https://vgy.me/ strips EXIF data.
I sent this file up,:https://vgy.me/ZmLbQT.jpg, which on my end does have EXIF, yet when I copy it back down it's missing.

Well my bad, I didn't expect that. The file sent by email should have the exif intact, though.
