NEWBIE - help with simple renaming

In Replace 3, I have typed the part of the file name I wish to shorten followed by the shortened text.
The Rename button remains grayed out and Ctrl R results in error message saying there are no selected files that need renaming.
I have a screen shot to share but don't see how to attach it.
Using Windows7.

I had omitted a space in the original text.
