invalid characters

Postby Guest » Tue Jun 28, 2005 8:48 am

Hello,

Tried to rename 50000 files/folders.
The program told me that some files/folders contain invalid characters like /?>< and asked me to click ok, not renaming any of them.
Really annoying.. i really don't want to go trough all the 50k long names to find out which ones to exclude.
Could the program exclude them automatically and just let me know that some file names contained some bad characters? And ofcourse rename the files/folders.

Hello anonymous,

The program isn't saying that you have invalid characters in EXISTING filenams, it is telling you that your have ENTERED invalid characters.

Some characters are not allowed in filenames - if you have Windows XP then you can try renaming a file in Explorer and type a colon (:) - you get a popup giving you the list of invalid characters.

Finally, you can already see which ones are invalid, as the "new-name" column is coloured red for invalid filenames (and green for valid filenames).

Hope this helps.
