Rename from Text File

Postby hottshotts » Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:48 pm

Hello All,

I am trying to rename from a text file and am having some problems. I have a text file in the format:

Aiken Tiffani.jpeg|472013162.jpeg

I have a picture file with the name:

aiken tiffani.jpeg

My procedure is this:

Open BRU
Drive to the picture file and highlight it
Select File/Import Rename pairs
drive to the text file, select it and click open

At this point I thought the old file would be renamed to the new file where it says 'New Name'
Howeveer, nothing happens. Obviously I am missing a step or have a setting wrong. I have several thousand files that need to be changed. I figure if I could change one I can change 1000, but I can't even change one!

Any suggestions? I am really under the gun to get this done!!!

Hi,

Pres Ctrl+A to select the files. Matching files should be flagged for renaming.

Wow....thanks for the quick reply!

Unfortunately that doesn't work. Cntrl A is how I normally select the files so this is what I have been doing. Is there a box I need to check? I know this works as I did this last year. It seems I needed to check something or select somethng first. Simply selecting the file and importing the text file is not working. I am sure it is something very simple. I have gone over the manual several times and looked through every post I can find.

Thanks
Rob

Possibly the "ignore extensions" flag, since you have the file extension in your import filename?

Bummer, that did not work either. I have tried to make another dummy file:

1234.jpeg and tried to name it 5678.jpeg

The text file is one line (does there need to be a header or anything? Text File:

1234.jpeg|5678.jpeg

The picture file to change is only one file in a folder and is called 1234.jpeg

I select the picture file by Cntrl A so it is highlighted.
I then select File/Import Pairs and got to the .txt file I created in Notepad.
Once the .txt file is selected I click OK. Still nothing.

It should not matter boxes 1 -12 are checked or unchecked does it? I have tried both.

Mmm, weird... the step-by-step you describe is just fine and should be working (it does for me; I can't recreate your problem even following exactly the steps you mention). Why don't you try reseting BRU to the default configuration:

1) Close BRU.
2) Remove the file "Bulk Rename Utility.ini" (just temporarily; don't delete it) from BRU's main folder.
3) Now open BRU and try renaming.

If it works, you probably had some forgotten config somewhere that was causing the problem.
Best regards,

Gabriel.

WooooHoooo!!!!!! I figured it out!!!!!!!

I feel like a dummy. The text file read:

1234.jpeg|5678,jpeg

The picture file is .jpg........no e....so the program could not find picture file to change it.
