Prefix folder name with earliest file date?

Postby Andrew Taylor » Sun Feb 26, 2023 8:54 am

I've lots of folders that I would like to rename in a specific way if possible.
I'd like to prefix the folder name with earliest file created date.

This is an example folder and files...

testfoldernamethings
filenameapple (date created 27/03/2022)
filenamebook (date created 14/04/2022)
-
-
filenametennis (date created 12/12/2022)

I'd like to prefix the folder name with the earliest 'date created' file date thus.

2022-03-27 testfoldernamethings
filenameapple (date created 27/03/2022)
filenamebook (date created 14/04/2022)
-
-
filenametennis (date created 12/12/2022)

Is this possible to do?
Thanks.

:)

BulkFileChanger should be able to get your directories dated as you want, I would think.https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bulk_file_changer.html

After that, BRU can deal with Date Created.
It can deal with Date Created, but if it can do that with multiple directories as the target, I'm not sure offhand.

Thanks.
I've looked at BulkFileChanger and I can't find a way to get it to do what I want.
I agree that BRU can sort out the date formatting once I can get the earliest file created date inserted into the folder name.
I guess its a weird thing I to want to do.

I suspect I may have to brush up my (very rudimentary) batch file skills or maybe take a look at Powershell scripting?
