BRU (3503) has trouble with LFN (Long File Names) - with drag&drop.
(In cases where the issue occurs, only an "icon" displays. I did see this, now, I'm not sure what I did to see it, cause I'm not duplicating that, at the moment?)
Samples:
- Code: Select all
C:\TMP\BRU\dir_holding_a_symlink\239xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx012345678999-255.char.name.part.incl.extension.txt
C:\TMP\BRU\987654x-x239xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx012345678999-255.char.name.part.incl.extension.txt
1st, 272 chars long, with the name-part being 239 chars
2nd, 259 chars long, with the name-part being 248 chars
Both those are fine.
But, add a single character to them, & you get nothing but an "icon".
(I was drag&drop the filenames into BRU.)
Similarly, if you try to F2 the filename to add 1 character, you get an "could not be renamed. Error: The system cannot find the path specified" message.
Appears F2 will allow up to 259 chars in the file name, but the maximum Windows allows is 255 chars.
Appears you can drag&drop a "full name" (so path+name) of up 259 chars into BRU, & that is seen.
Or, you can use the directory tree & see a "full name" of >255 chars (potentially much greater) in BRU.
But then BRU cannot rename said file.
