Bug: Rename replacement entries corruption

Postby bigi » Fri Nov 22, 2024 12:30 am

I've been delighted with the extended v4 functions of BRU and am making extensive use of it while carrying out a lot of reformatting media files and folders.

I've now started using multiple replace options, which have worked great....until I went over 10-15 entries. This works great...until you save config and reopen BRU; at which point most of the replacement entries are missing and jumbled up. The first 8 entries appear to remain correct, from the 9th entry, "with" entries are missed out and out of order, with no entries in the field at all above 19. Incidentally, the colour changing gray bars also stop after the 10th row.

I can reset and it works again, but records are corrupted again on next restart.

I have highlighted in colour the fields in the wrong position and in the same colour where they should be if that helps! note the image is scrolled up so missing the top 6 entries, which are all fine!

Hi, thank you for posting on the forum, would you mind posting also a list of all the replacements that you have that work, before you save and reload them? so we can test it here.
thanks!

Sure - I appear to be able to see them all when i choose from the "managed entries lists" ok oddly

Thank you, if I paste those into Replace and With and then click on the button to view multiple replacements, I can see 36 entries.
Then if I save to a new .bru file and then reload it, I do not see any corruption.
Are you saving to a .bru file and reopen it?

These are 36 individual Replace entries
& 36 individual With entries.

And these entries are just that, individual.
They are not related; 1 to 1.
Such that the #1 entry in Replace need not correspond to the #1 entry in With.
They are simply individual lists of "history" (if you will).

So if you had Replace | With, of:
1|1
2|2
3|3

& you selected from the Replace dropdown, '3',
at that point, your Replace | With "list" would be:
3|1
2|2
1|3
(or something akin to that)

A Rename-Pairs list is a direct correlation.
1|1 will always be 1|1, 2|2 will always be 2|2, 3|3 will always be 3|3.

These dropdown entries do not work like that.
They also are not stored in the .bru, but rather in the Windows Registry.

And the last selected item gets "promoted" to spot 1, & all the others drop down 1 notch.
And again, this is last selected - per particular dropdown.
So Repace, spot 1, could be '18' & With, spot 1, could be '9'.

How did you get that screenshot, with (seemingly) corresponding Replace's with With's, or is it two separate shots?

BRU 4.x has the 6 dots on the Replace and With fields to manage and choose from previous entries; but it also has two horizontal lines (like a large = sign) to the left of the With field. this brings up the box in my image.

One of the wonderful new features I'm hammering a lot and why i bought a home license :)

OK so i updated to the latest release of 4 yesterday, when i loaded up it was corrupt again. so i reset and then saved as a new bru file instead of overwriting the existing one. I have quite a few other entries to choose from as well, so not sure if that has an impact as well.

However - I've just gone into it tonight.....and its fine this time!

I will give it more of a tryout the next few days and see if it's resolved now....

Hi! there were some small changes introduced to the .BRU file saving, I believe unicode vs non-unicode as well, so saving it as a new BRU file might have fixed that. You can compare the old .bru file vs the new one to see if there are differences re how the values are saved.

BRU 4.x has the 6 dots on the Replace and With fields

Thanks :-).

These are 36 individual Replace entries

Ah, so (with above) I was wrong about that.

They also are not stored in the .bru, but rather in the Windows Registry.

And (so) wrong about that too.

The 36 paired entries (Replace & With) ARE stored in the .bru.

And now, with a correct "36" .bru (& BRU 4.0.0.3, & the .bru file is utf-8), it does look to be retaining corresponding orders (across restarts & saves).

I'll note that the 4th Replace value does look to be a unicode character.
–, $96$, an en dash,
rather then a "dash" dash,
-, $2d$.

Sadly I spoke to soon! I've added some more entries now (49 in total). All was working great...until tonight. Opened up to edit (a lot) of entries, and changed to the record record similar to before - and it's lost random entries out of the list again:

Saved to the new file, only thing i've done is swap to different replace/With options - gone back to this and it's corrupted again

Sure:

Replace:
_-_|_|--|–|-(|?|[20*]|[19*]|-lp|-2lp|-3lp|-4lp|-2vinyl|-vinyl|[vinyl]|[vinyl rip]|(cdm)|-cdm| cdm| cdr|-cdr|-cds| cds|-cd|-2cd|-3cd|-4cd|[*CD]|-web|- web| web |[web]|-16bit|-24bit| [FLAC 16B-44.1kHz]|(19*) [24bit Vinyl Rip]|(20*) [24bit Vinyl Rip]|(19*) [16Bit]|(19*) [24Bit]|(20*) [16Bit]|(20*) [24Bit]|(24-192)|(24-96)|-promo| Ep |(19*) (16Bit)|(19*) (24Bit)|(20*) (16Bit)|(20*) (24Bit)

With:
- | |-|-| (| - |(20*)|(19*)| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [VINYL]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [CD]| [WEB]| [WEB]| [WEB]| [WEB]| (16Bit)| (24Bit)| (24Bit)| (24Bit) [VINYL] (19*)| (24Bit) [VINYL] (20*)| (16Bit) [VINYL] (19*)| (24Bit) [VINYL] (19*)| (16Bit) [VINYL] (20*)| (24Bit) [VINYL] (20*)| (24Bit-192k)| (24Bit-96k)| (Promo)| EP| (16Bit) (19*)| (24Bit) (19*)| (16Bit) (20*)| (24Bit) (20*)

Out of interest after i rebuilt this again last night, I deleted all other entries in the recent options list, deleted the current BRU file and saved a fresh one. it's worked again this afternoon, so it may be an issue with either multiple entries in the replace|with pull down boxes, or somehow amending an entry corrupts the bru file?
