I panicked

Postby crunk » Sun Sep 16, 2012 2:40 am

i'm sure it's a great util, but this was my reality.

14.7 gigs of pdf files on a flash drive, all of which w7 decided to dump into .chk, right about 20 minutes before the cab was supposed to arrive.

Here are the steps.

1. find, download, install chk recovery.

2. recover bulk chk

3. reformat flash drive

4. stare in shock at a folder with a ton of chks

5. snap at wife for no reason, to which she calmly replies "i'll start renaming by hand, you do what you usually do"

6. search for bulk rename util, in EXACT wording.

7. answer phone and convince the cab driver to wait

8. locate, install bulk rename util.

9. open util, freak out, open help and go straight to "getting started" section.

10. Read "Don't panic", then panic while laughing hysterically

11. Answer the phone again, and assure cabby of a good tip for waiting.

12. Wife is done renaming files by hand.

13. Get into cab while thinking - technology fails again, thank you wife, chalk up yet another loss for common sense, and up one for practicality.

14. Plan on learning rename util GUI, just in case.

15. Try to forget the entire ordeal and move on with life.

This is what I'm doing right now, sitting and blowing time on GUI of a util i'll probably never use again, but being a man it's a matter of personal pride to learn how to use a tool the use of which I no longer need...

Don't Panic - it's true.
It's a scary GUI - but it is all one ONE screen, no digging through sub menus for this and that.
Once you've looked over the Help guide, and consider what it is you are trying to achieve - it makes sense.
